PILGRIMAGE TO ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI CATHOLIC CHURCH

We apologize for the short notice, but we would like to invite anyone who is able to join us for a special Jubilee Year pilgrimage to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Staunton this Saturday, August 1.
This will be a wonderful opportunity to spend the morning with Fr. William, celebrate Mass together, pray as a pilgrimage community, and take part in the opportunity to receive the Plenary Indulgence associated with this Jubilee Year pilgrimage.
Schedule
9:00 a.m. — Daily Mass at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Staunton.
Additional activities and prayers will follow.
There is no cost to participate, but participants are responsible for their own transportation. Please arrive before Mass begins.

Receive a Plenary Indulgence
Those who participate in this pilgrimage may receive a plenary indulgence. The Catechism of the Catholic Church defines a plenary indulgence as "the remission before God of the temporal punishment due to sins whose guilt has already been forgiven" (CCC 1471). While an indulgence does not forgive sins, it removes the temporal punishment that remains after sins have been forgiven.
To receive this plenary indulgence, pilgrims must:
- Make a pilgrimage to a Franciscan conventual church or a church dedicated to or associated with St. Francis of Assisi.
- Participate in the Jubilee rites or spend time in prayer and meditation, concluding with the Our Father, the Creed, and invocations to the Blessed Virgin Mary, St. Francis of Assisi, St. Clare, and all the saints of the Franciscan family.
- Be truly repentant and free from attachment to sin.
- Receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
- Receive Holy Communion.
- Pray for the intentions of the Holy Father.
The requirements of sacramental confession, Holy Communion, and prayers for the Pope's intentions may be fulfilled within several days before or after the pilgrimage.

CHILDREN'S LITURGY OF THE WORD
We are seeking more volunteers for this ministry when we resume in the fall! Join us in supporting the families of our parish. If you don't feel ready to lead children as a Proclaimer of the Word, don't worry — you can still make a significant contribution by volunteering as an assistant.
The volunteer commitment is only 1–2 Sundays per month. Come join us during the liturgy and see if you are being called to serve!

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION REGISTRATION
We welcome all children from kindergarten to fifth grade to participate in this program. Our sessions focus on sharing the fundamentals of our Catholic faith, and also prepare children for the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Communion if they are enrolled in 2nd grade or higher. Classes begin September 13 and are available in both English and Spanish. English classes are held 10:15–11:15 a.m.; Spanish classes are held 12:15–1:15 p.m.

MEN'S CURSILLO WEEKEND
What can I do for you, Lord? How can I build a loving friendship with God to sustain me in times of happiness and challenges?
These are questions addressed on a Cursillo weekend experience. The next Men's Cursillo Weekend will be held Thursday, October 1 (7:00 p.m.) through Sunday, October 4 (5:00 p.m.), 2026, at the Blessings Lodge on the campus of Camp Overlook in Keezletown, VA. The theme of the weekend is "Open Our Hearts, Lord."
A Cursillo is a 3-day encounter to enrich your spirituality and raise awareness of Christ in every moment of your life. Cursillo recognizes we aren't meant to walk this journey of life alone — we need spiritual nutrition that comes from sharing with other believers. Come walk this journey alongside other Catholic men of all ages and be filled with the joy Christ offers each one of us.
