Margarita Villacorta
I was born in Houston, Texas, but much of my childhood was spent in El Salvador, where my parents are from. Spanish was the language I grew up with and the lens through which I understood the world. In 2005, my mother followed a long-time friend and eventually much of our extended family to Charlottesville, Virginia. That move opened a new chapter in my life, one that would shape my relationship with God and my community in ways I could not have imagined.
I grew up attending local schools in Albemarle County and began going to the Church of the Incarnation in early 2006. It was here that my faith began to take deeper root through the sacraments of Communion and Confirmation. Incarnation quickly became more than a church; it became a place of belonging. I have always felt especially connected to the Spanish community, which has remained a meaningful and lasting part of my culture and who I am. From playing an angel in Pastorellas as a child to portraying a lamenting woman in the Passion of Christ during my teenage years, my life has always found its way back to God, in both small and meaningful ways.
I have seen God’s presence most clearly through the kindness, generosity, strength, and willingness to serve that live within the Spanish community at Incarnation. When my family began helping with the Food Ministry in early 2013, something was quietly planted in my heart. Since then, I have never stopped trying to find ways to serve my community, whether behind the scenes or out in the open.
This desire to serve has followed me through my education. I began at Bridgewater College studying communications, transferred to Piedmont Virginia Community College during the pandemic to pursue graphic design, and eventually continued to Sweet Briar College, where I completed my bachelor’s degree in Business. After my first year at Sweet Briar, I was invited to
serve as an Orientation Leader for the Class of 2028, an experience that strengthened my voice and deepened my passion for supporting and advocating for others.
Having graduated from Sweet Briar College in May 2025, I return to Incarnation with gratitude and humility. Being chosen as Charity Coordinator is more than an honor; it is a gift from God. To serve a community so full of faith and generosity is a privilege I do not take lightly. From bridging language gaps to welcoming new people into their walk with God, I am incredibly thankful for the opportunity to serve the families who have raised me, taught me, and guided me along this journey.
I am especially grateful to Marta Daley for the incredible work she has done. Knowing how deeply she is loved and seeing the impact of her advocacy and care means so much to me. I pray to honor the foundation she has built as I step into this role. While the responsibility is not small, I am eager to learn, grow, and embrace the opportunities that come with serving this parish. I trust where this journey will lead.
Most days, you’ll find me with a cup of coffee in hand, music playing in the background, and moving from one task to the next around the church. I am a big animal lover and share my home with a gray tabby cat named Estrella, a foster who became family. Please don’t hesitate to say hello. My heart has always been with my people, and I feel incredibly lucky to serve this community through our charity work.
