Youth Ministry - Nuts and Bolts

Retreats

There are many Diocesan retreats for youth held each year. Discovery is for 9th and 10th graders, and Christian Awakening is for 11th and 12th graders. The Parish also sponsors an Antioch Retreat during the fall of the year for all high school youth. It is expected that both Middle and High School youths will participate in at least one retreat during their middle and high school years.

Service Projects

Service projects are offered to give young people opportunities for helping to minister to others. Some of these are: collecting food at Christmas, packing food baskets, harvesting, mission trips, visiting nursing homes, migrant camps, etc. A service project is a required part of our confirmation preparation program.

Social Activities

Both on a parish level, many social activities are offered throughout the year.

Leadership Team

A core team - one for High School and soon, one for Middle School is made up of youth and adults to help plan both parish and tri-parish activities. The core team is divided into committees made up of youth who then implement all of the various projects. Two of the committees are the service and publicity committees.

Senior High Program

Confirmed Juniors and Seniors are invited to serve as peer ministers and group leaders on various retreat activities for the younger grades. Informal discussion groups are also help on a monthly basis for these young people with topics relevant to the age group.
