Stick It to the Flu

The Virginia Department of Health has reported its first laboratory-confirmed cases of influenza for the 2012-2013 flu season. Although flu activity is local at present, it is never too early nor too late to think about influenza prevention. Please consider the actions below to help mitigate the effects of influenza this season.

a)  You and your family are encouraged to get your annual influenza vaccine this fall. The A/H3N2 and B vaccine virus components in the 2012‑2013 vaccine are new. Vaccine viruses undergo a vigorous selection process in order to maximize the likelihood that the influenza vaccine will provide protection against the viruses most likely to spread and cause illness among people during each flu season. Influenza vaccination remains the best tool we have to prevent influenza.
b)  Annual influenza vaccination is recommended for everyone 6 months of age or older. The influenza vaccine is especially important for those with chronic medical conditions, health care workers, and caregivers of infants under 6 months of age. Pregnant women should receive an annual flu vaccine during pregnancy to protect themselves and their babies.
c)  For more detailed information on influenza vaccine dosing and administration, go to www.cdc.gov/flu/professionals/vaccination/.

Telecoil Loop

For those who have experienced difficulty hearing what is said at Mass:  Orientation sessions for the recently installed telecoil loop will be held at the following times in the Worship Center: July 16 after the 5:30 pm Mass and July 17 at 10:30 am. Come to either of the sessions and you will be able to determine if your hearing aids are appropriately equipped to use the telecoil and/or test the devices we have for those who do not wear an aid. Above all, you will be able to try out the new system and determine whether or not it will help you hear everything said at Mass through a microphone.  If you have any questions, please call parishioner Ray Haas at 978-4087.

  • - Blood Pressure screening will resume on Sunday, September 4th after the 9 AM Mass. It will be held in the counseling room directly across from the Parish Hall.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

Prayer Shawl Ministry

The Health Ministry has started a “Prayer Shawl Ministry”. The shawl serves as a mantle and sign of God’s healing presence to strengthen someone who is weary, to ease their suffering and to comfort them when in pain or when they feel alone. The shawls are made with love by parishioners. Prayer shawls are available in the Parish Office. There is no cost for the shawl. Donations are accepted for future purchases of yarn.

Mission Statement:  The purpose of our Prayer Shawl Ministry is to have shawls available, made with prayer, for someone who needs comfort during times of difficulty and stress, to know they are not alone physically as well as spiritually. Our ministry began in June, 2012 and currently has 31 members. We meet every other Thursday starting November 8, 2012 at 6:30p at Incarnation in Room 8. Our meetings are listed on the Incarnation website calendar. Crochet and knitting patterns, yarn, and needles are available for anyone needing supplies. There is always someone who can help read a pattern or understand a stitch. Whether you complete one shawl or 6 shawls; come to the meeting or not, you are welcome to be a part of this loving ministry.
