Yearly Class Schedule
Grade 1
Curriculum
We use books from Resources for Christian Living (RCL) Publishing Company as part of a program called “Faith First.” The program includes an interactive website for children, teachers and parents (www.faithfirst.com). In Grade 1 children are encouraged with the help of parents to learn four prayers: Sign of the Cross, Lord’s Prayer, Hail Mary, and the Glory Be. At this age, children should also be familiar with the story of the Nativity of our Lord.
Sunday Mass
Grade 1 builds a foundation for a child’s preparation of the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist the next year. A child’s participation in Sunday Liturgy becomes increasingly important at this age. Since Grade 1 meets during the 9:00 a.m. Liturgy, we do not have class the first Sunday of the month to allow children to participate in the Mass with their families.
Parents’ Role
Parents help children learn the basic prayers, develop an appreciation for the Sunday Liturgy, and foster a desire to prepare for and receive Reconciliation and Eucharist the following year.
Grade 2
Curriculum
We use books from Resources for Christian Living (RCL) Publishing Company as part of a program called “Faith First.” The program includes an interactive website for children, teachers and parents (www.faithfirst.com). During the first half of the year, children concentrate on preparing for 1st Reconciliation. A communal reconciliation service for the children is offered in early January. Children prepare for 1st Eucharist during the second half of the year, which is celebrated during liturgies in May (excluding Memorial Day weekend).
In addition, parents work with children at home using the Together in Jesus series by Pflaum Publishing Company.
Parents’ Role
Parents are required to attend several parent meetings during the year. A schedule of Parent Meetings for 1st Reconciliation and 1st Eucharist can be found here.
